Laminate floors are stylish, durable and traditionally
easy to maintain. Laminate floors are suitable for all rooms throughout the home,
including hallways, lounges and kitchens. Laminate floors can even be use in offices
or studies, as the floors will not easily mark or scratch (with suitable caster
protection on chairs).
Real wood vs. laminate floors
The most important difference between realwood and laminate floors
is quite simple: one is made from wood, and laminate is not. The core (mid-section)
of a laminate floor is constructed of HDF (High Density Fibre Board), whilst underneath
a barrier layer stops rising damp and prevents the boards from deforming. The decorative
layer is typically an image of wood or ceramics printed on paper. This is then covered,
or laminated, with a extremely strong and transparent protective coating. Laminates
are traditionally less expensive than wood floors simply because they are not real
wooden floors and therefore easier to produce. Unlike most real wood floors, laminate
floors cannot be sanded or repaired. However, laminate floors
are easy to maintain, and offer excellent advantages such as a resistance to scratching,
staining and burning - making them suitable for high traffic areas of any business
or home.
